As discussed in Alberta Education’s document on the Principal Quality Standard, a principal that provides instructional leadership “ensures that all students have ongoing access to quality teaching and learning opportunities to meet the provincial goals of education.” (Click for posts on “Providing Instructional Leadership“)
I felt I have met the criteria by doing the following:
- Created the Connected Principals website which is a collection of learning and thoughts from school administrators worldwide. This has been a great learning tool for many current and aspiring administrators all over the world, and continues to gain content daily.
- Building my own Personal Learning Network (PLN) through the effective use of Social Media which has helped with the learning of our entire staff. Through the use of Twitter and my own personal blog, I have had many opportunities to share and learn from others all over the world. This has given me the opportunity to share learning with my staff, while also empowering others to build their own PLN’s.
- Created my own blog/portfolio site to understand the benefits and implications of this type of learning for our students and staff. Through this transition, several of our staff have started their own personal blog sites, while every teacher hosts a classroom blog.
- Have been invited to share my learning in various presentations on different subjects at conferences from Red Deer to Barcelona.
- Named the 2011 ISTE Newbie and will be attending the ISTE conference in Philadelphia.
- Will be presenting at Educon 2011 with Patrick Larkin, a colleague located in Burlington, MA.
- Built a presentation on our Eportfolio project to connect 21st Century Learning skills through this technology.
- Continuously share information through the use of Diigo to share links and important readings. This has led to a weekly email sharing articles that impact student learning.
