The 8 and 80-Year-Old Versions of You

Well, today is my birthday.

I am 47 years old, and I feel so much better than I did when I first hit this decade of my life. I hope that when I turn 50, that is still true.

I just wanted to share this quote that I recently heard that struck me, and I wanted to share it with you all.

Paraphrased:

“There are only two people in the world that you need to care about their opinion.

It is not your mom, your dad, your spouse, your kids, your boss, or your friends.

It is the 8-year-old version of you and the 80-year-old version of you.

You have lived a good life if you impress those two people.”

I love that thinking.

And then I thought, what would those two people want?

Well, the 8-year old version of me would want me to live a full life, take risks and try things that I thought were impossible when I was a kid. I have done many things that I have enjoyed in life, and I know that a lot of my “bucket list” items have been checked off (except for Wrestlemania!), but I also continue to add to those items.

And then I thought about the 80-year version and realized how many people mentioned that we shouldn’t impress; I would hope they are just that. I want to have done things that have left an impact on the world and have made those around me better and proud.

In summary, I want to live a life full of passion that positively impacts others.

The 8 and 80-year-old versions of me would want that for this year and those that follow.

Just something that resonated, and I wanted to share it with you all.
