Playing in Public (K-12 Online Keynote)

I was honoured to be asked to prepare a keynote for the K-12 Online Conference for 2012.  Although I was excited, I know that I was extremely nervous preparing something after referencing Dean Shareski’s past keynote on sharing, which has been hugely influential in the work I have done.

There were so many ideas I batted around, but I often struggled with just putting things together as the “video” medium is something that is fairly new to me.  I have made little videos here and there, but nothing of any length or that needed any editing.  Thankfully, so many people stepped up to help by either adding different elements to the presentation (music, artwork, video) or even directions on how to create the video.

As I went through the project, I became extremely proud of the work that I have seen done in Parkland School Division.  I believe that if leadership wants to make things happen in schools, they have to model these same expectations.  I am proud that our Superintendent, Tim Monds, models this work, and I hope I showed a glimpse of the impact this work has had on our teachers, students, and school community.  Great schools learn together and I see that here everyday.  For as much as I have been out there able to speak in the last couple of years, I was nervous about this venue, so I was glad to highlight some of the great people that inspire me everyday in our own division.  Hopefully I did some of their work justice.

If you are interested, the keynote for the conference is below.  Thanks to everyone for your help and support.
