Opening Doors

As an administrator, I am blessed that I always have the opportunity to get into the classroom and see the amazing things that our teachers are doing.  I do my best to share their learning, but it is always second hand information when it is coming from me.  We try our best to give staff opportunities to work together, but there are only so many hours in the day, and only so many days teachers can be out of the classroom.

This year, at Forest Green School, staff have created their own blogs through a WordPress MU (Multiple User) site.  All of these sites are connected to one another, while also giving teachers an opportunity to create their own space for the classroom.  We have only started this in the last two weeks, but I have already been encouraged by the progress our school has made.

Last Wednesday, a teacher asked me for advice on a project. I encouraged her to try VoiceThread although my use of the site has been limited.  She decided that she would give it a try and with the support of our critical thinking/technology integration coordinator, did an amazing job with her students.  I was really encouraged by the following comment by one of my other teachers:

I absolutely love this and can’t wait to try this with my class! What a great idea! I love seeing all of the different things we can do with our blogs! Your students did such a wonderful job with this project! Great job 3/4!

New doors have now been opened through our school blogs, to not only our parents and students, but to the other teachers in our building (not to mention the world).  If we can share our practices with one another and create better learning environments for our students, isn’t all of this “blogging” worth it?
