One of my goals this year is to give parents opportunities to learn alongside their kids. Some of our initiatives in our K-6 site include having students use more social media, leadership for every student, critical thinking, and individualized learning practices.
Last year at this time, I did not use any social media and came from a few ideas to many. Next week, David Truss will be skyping in from China (at 6am his time…thanks David!) to our parent council meeting to talk about parent engagement in social media (read this post I linked of his for some great information!) and how they can help guide their own child. This is meant to be a short talk to just show parents the possibilities that are now open to our school and the immediate availability of many people that can help us to learn.
Through this goal of helping to develop an entire learning community, that includes students, staff, and parents, I would love some input on what learning I could share with parents.
Do you have any suggestions? Thoughts? Please share them. I also know that there are parents from my school that read my blog, so PLEASE jump into the conversation and let me know what you would like to learn. If we work alongside our students in their learning, they will be able to do so much.
Suggestions?
