Before you write your mission statement…

Re-aligned meeting rails

The school year has come to a close for many, and many educators and administrators are attending conferences and reworking their schools for the 2011-2012 school year.  Often times there are little tweaks that are happening, but most schools are really looking at their vision and mission statements and how it pertains to the work that they are doing.

If we are really going to revisit or even rewrite these statements , we need to ask the question, “What is the purpose of school?”  If the purpose of your school is to prepare students to excel in their future and be contributors and or leaders to innovative organizations, how does your vision/mission support this, and what are the practices that support the vision?  All of these things need to be aligned before you can successfully move forward.

Purpose –>  Vision –>  Practice

All of these need to be transparent, clear, and aligned.
